Scottish provincial silver refers to items made outside the main assay offices of Edinburgh and Glasgow, typically marked by regional silversmiths using unique makers marks and town hallmarks.

Antique teaspoons from the 18th and 19th centuries are predominantly crafted from sterling silver or coin silver, often featuring hand-beaten construction and engraved initials.

Authentic pieces are identified by characteristic makers marks, regional town marks, patination consistent with age, and traditional hand-crafted construction details rather than modern machine stamping.

Antique silverware can be displayed in glass-fronted cabinets, used within table settings to add historic contrast, or presented on silver display trays as a focal point.

Preserve antique silver by storing it in tarnish-resistant cloth, washing it gently with mild soap when necessary, and avoiding harsh abrasive cleaners that can wear away engravings and hallmarks.
