We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Elkington & Co was a pioneering British manufacturing company based in Birmingham, famous for commercialising the electroplating process in the 1840s, which transformed the silver and table-ware industry by making silver-plated items widely accessible.

Antique ice buckets from this era were typically constructed from a base metal such as copper, nickel brass, or Britannia metal, which was then coated with a layer of pure silver using the electroplating technique, often featuring soldered handles and reinforced bands.

Authentic pieces usually bear the specific Elkington date letters, royal warrant stamps, and the E & Co makers mark, alongside manufacturer numbers stamped into the base or side of the metalware.

An antique silver ice bucket can be repurposed as a vase for floral arrangements, utilised on a bar cart to hold bar tools, or displayed on a sideboard as a reflective metallic accent piece.

Silver plate should be hand-washed with mild soap and warm water, dried thoroughly with a soft cloth, and polished periodically using a non-abrasive silver cream to prevent excessive tarnish while protecting the underlying plating.
