Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Scottish provincial silver encompasses items crafted outside Edinburgh and Glasgow by local goldsmiths, often featuring unique maker marks alongside regional assay stamps. These pieces reflect distinct local styles and historical trade guilds active during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Antique silver mugs were typically crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as raising from a flat sheet of metal, spinning, or casting for handles. Silversmiths employed soldering to attach components and hand-engraving or chasing for decorative detailing.

Authenticity is primarily verified through hallmark stamps indicating the metal purity, maker, assay office, and date letter. Additionally, genuine antique pieces exhibit natural wear patterns, minor surface scratches, and hand-finished construction traits absent in mass-produced items.

An antique silver mug can serve as a polished accent on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard, contrasting effectively against matte surfaces and organic textures. It also functions practically as a container for pens or small floral arrangements.

Preserve antique silver by storing it in a dry, tarnish-resistant environment and cleaning it infrequently using a non-abrasive silver cloth. Avoid harsh chemical dips that can strip away original patination and historical detail.
