Silver wine funnels gained popularity during the Georgian and Victorian eras, utilised by households to decant port, sherry, and other wines from casks or heavy bottles while filtering out sediment.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as spinning, hammering, and soldering, often featuring a detachable muslin-ring or perforated strainer insert.

Authentic pieces are identified through clear hallmarks indicating the assay office, makers mark, and date letter, alongside traditional hand-wrought construction details and period-appropriate weight.

This piece can be displayed on a sideboard top or within a glass-fronted cabinet alongside other polished silver items to introduce a touch of historical refinement to contemporary dining spaces.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly with a non-abrasive silver cloth to maintain the patina, stored in a low-humidity environment, and kept away from direct sunlight and rubber products.
