Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Florentine six-light chandelier dates from 1930 and follows a Florentine style. Constructed from wood and iron, the piece displays an olive green and gold colour scheme with painted and gilt finishes, incorporating a turned wooden baluster stem, acanthus leaf sconces, scrolled metal arms, and drip candle sleeves. Visible details include carved wooden bobeche drip pans with pierced leaves, an original chain, and a ceiling rose, alongside original painted patination showing appropriate age and wear. The hanging light measures 53 cm high, 48 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, excluding the chain and rose. Suitable for ambient illumination in living rooms, dining spaces, or entrance halls, the fixture provides practical lighting suspended from the ceiling.

FAQs

Florentine polychrome chandeliers originate from Florence, Italy, and are recognised by their combination of carved wooden central spindles, wrought metal arms, and hand-painted multi-coloured finishes often combined with gold leaf gilding.

These lighting fixtures are typically constructed from turned softwood or pine for the central column, combined with hand-wrought iron or steel arms, decorative pressed metal leaves, and gesso finishes prepared for polychrome paint and gilding.

Authentic pieces feature layered tempera or oil paint applied over a gesso base, visible hand-carving marks on the wooden column, wired arm construction, and natural age wear such as paint flaking or subtle metal oxidisation.

A polychrome chandelier can be hung above a dining table, in a bedroom, or within an entryway to add historical character, complementing neutral walls, contemporary furniture, or traditional country house schemes.

Dust the chandelier gently using a dry, soft-bristled microfibre brush or feather duster, avoiding water, chemical cleaners, or liquid polishes that can dissolve historic tempera paint or loosen fragile gold leaf.
