The Arts and Crafts movement, emerging in the late 19th century, emphasised handcraftsmanship, natural materials, and the rejection of mass-produced industrial monotony, focusing on honest construction and utility.

Traditional lanterns from this period frequently utilised hand-beaten copper, brass, iron, and wrought iron frameworks, often combined with blown or stained glass panels in hues such as green, amber, or opalescent white.

Authentic pieces typically display hand-hammered marks, visible riveted construction, natural patination on the metal surfaces, and traditional soldered joints rather than modern machine stamping.

An antique lantern can serve as a striking focal point when suspended in a hallway, above a kitchen island, or within a transitional space, contrasting clean modern walls with rich historical texture.

Preserve the historical patination by avoiding harsh metal polishes; instead, gently dust the metal and glass surfaces with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent accumulation of grime.
