FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, often featuring secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings, complemented by brass hardware and leather writing surfaces.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage, hand-forged or cast brass fixings, and structural wear consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

Pair the historical piece with minimalist contemporary seating and subdued lighting to create a striking focal point that highlights the craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
