We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Victorian bookcases emerged during the 19th century, drawing inspiration from various historical revivals while prioritising functional utility and robust joinery for growing home libraries.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid timbers such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged shelves, and sturdy plinth bases.

Authenticity is indicated by timber oxidisation, tool marks from hand planes, secondary woods in drawer linings or backs, and consistent wear patterns appropriate to age.

Integrating period furniture into modern spaces works best by pairing warm wood tones with minimalist surroundings, neutral walls, and curated collections of books and ceramics.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
