Cranberry glass is a red or pinkish-red glass created by adding gold chloride to molten glass. It gained widespread popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, particularly for decorative tableware and dressing table accessories.

These jars typically combine blown or moulded glass bodies with sterling silver, silver-plate, or pewter lids. The metal components often feature hallmarks indicating the assay office, maker, and year of production.

Authenticity is determined by examining the hallmarks stamped on the silver mount, which denote the makers mark, purity standard, assay office, and date letter. Additionally, period glass often displays pontil marks, minor surface bubbles, and hand-finished details.

These compact pieces can be displayed on a tray on a chest of drawers, used as accent decor on open shelving, or placed on a bathroom counter to hold small trinkets and cotton buds.

Glass components should be washed gently in lukewarm soapy water using a soft cloth, avoiding harsh abrasives. Silver lids require a specialised silver polishing cloth applied carefully to avoid contact with the glass.
