Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Hand-painted simulated rosewood finish: early twentieth-century Regency revival work.
Solid timber backboards with red wash: traditional workshop finishing technique.
Brass butt hinges fixed with single-slot screws: hardware from the era.
Gentle wear to painted edges: natural rubbing through years of household handling.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1920 Regency style waterfall bookcase is made from simulated rosewood with painted faux rosewood timber, dark brown wood colour, and gilded highlights. The piece stands 96 cm high, 51.5 cm wide, and 30.5 cm deep, measuring 96 cm by 51.5 cm by 30.5 cm in practical terms. It comprises two open shelves with a Regency green painted background above a lower cabinet with two panelled cupboard doors, working lock and key, and short square tapering legs. Place this compact bookcase in a living room, study, or hallway to hold books, display small decorative items, and provide concealed lower storage. The vertical timber grain, gold-painted edges, and stepped waterfall profile create a polished antique appearance for traditional or classic interiors.

FAQs

A Regency style waterfall bookcase features graduated open shelves that narrow towards the top in a cascading profile, set above a closed cupboard or drawer base.

These pieces commonly utilise fine hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or satinwood, often decorated with delicate brass or wooden stringing and painted interior compartments.

Look for original joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, solid wood back panels, genuine brass hardware, and natural signs of timber shrinkage near decorative inlays.

Position the bookcase in an alcove or study, curated with book spines, ceramic vessels, and framed artwork to complement the vertical tiered design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid placing the unit near direct heat sources or strong sunlight, and apply natural beeswax sparingly to unpainted wood surfaces.
