Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinese table lamp comprises a porcelain Famille Verte vase mounted with brass elements and paired with a cream pleated silk shade. The vase features hand-painted figurative panels depicting figures in an outdoor setting, complemented by floral enamel motifs, gilt handles shaped like stylized animals, and blue ground sections. The turned brass base incorporates a twisted rope moulding at the foot, supporting a baluster body wired for electricity. The overall piece stands 56 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, offering substantial presence for interior settings. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top or large side table, the lamp brings traditional Qing Dynasty style to an English Country house interior. The cream fabric shade diffuses light downwards, while the dark porcelain body contrasts against the warm metallic brass mounts and turned finial. The combination of oriental ceramic artistry with European brass mounts reflects a long tradition of decorative conversion suited for living rooms, studies, or reception hallways requiring warm ambient lighting and distinct period character.

FAQs

A table lamp created by converting a 19th-century Chinese porcelain vase, predominantly from the Qing dynasty, into a functional lighting fixture mounted with brass fittings and topped with a fabric shade.

These fixtures typically feature hand-painted polychrome porcelain vessels decorated with overglaze enamels, cast brass or bronze bases and collars, and fabric shades made of silk or linen.

Authentic period examples display hand-applied enamel artwork in traditional palettes like Famille Rose or Canton patterns, period-appropriate brass mountings, and natural age-related surface patina around metal joints.

Position the lamp on a sideboard, console table, or side table to create a focal point, contrasting its detailed polychrome patterns against neutral walls and timber furnishings.

Dust the porcelain base and pleated shade regularly using a soft dry cloth or feather duster, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that could degrade hand-painted enamel details or metal finishes.
