FAQs

Biscuit barrels became popular dining accessories during the Victorian era, specifically designed to keep dry biscuits fresh in middle and upper-class households.

These items were typically manufactured using a base metal such as nickel silver or Britannia metal, which was then electroplated with a layer of silver and often hand-chased or embossed.

Authenticity can be determined by examining maker marks, hallmarks, weight, and the characteristic wear patterns of electroplated silver from the 19th century.

This piece can be placed on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or open shelving as a decorative metal accent that introduces metallic texture to contemporary spaces.

Silver plate should be cleaned using a specialist silver polish and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners, and stored in a dry environment to prevent tarnishing.
