FAQs

Nineteenth-century gilded lamps often feature intricate hand-carved wooden structures finished with gold leaf, reflecting revivalist architectural motifs and classical ornamentation popular during the period.

These pieces typically comprise a solid timber core, such as pine or hardwood, coated in gesso before the application of fine metallic leaf layers, often mounted on a weighted base for stability.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-applied gesso and gold leaf layers for genuine craquelure, oxidation patterns, wear consistent with age, and period-appropriate joining or wiring modifications.

Pairing historical illumination with contemporary furnishings adds textural contrast; place it on a clean-lined modern sideboard or desk to create a sophisticated focal point.

Dust gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical polishes, abrasives, or excessive moisture which can damage delicate metallic leaf finishes.
