Art Nouveau is an international philosophy and style of art, architecture, and applied arts that was most popular during 1890-1910. It is characterised by organic forms, sinuous lines, and flattened perspectives inspired by natural shapes such as plants and flowers.

Art Nouveau metalwork frequently utilised copper, brass, bronze, and pewter, often shaped using techniques like repousse, chasing, and casting to achieve intricate organic textures and details.

Authentic pieces typically display period-appropriate manufacturing marks, natural patination, hand-finished details, and construction methods consistent with late 19th and early 20th-century metalworking trades rather than modern mass production.

These pieces can be mounted on focal walls to introduce metallic warmth and organic texture, pairing well with both neutral modern backdrops and eclectic, curated schemes that celebrate craftsmanship.

Brass should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Harsh chemical polishes should be avoided to preserve the historic surface patination and prevent damage to the delicate metal construction.
