Nurses buckles became popular in the late 19th century, often presented to nurses upon completion of their training or as ceremonial pieces worn on uniform belts.

They were typically crafted from sterling silver using stamping, pierced openwork, and hand-engraved detailing, often bearing British hallmarks.

Authenticity is verified by checking for clear sterling silver hallmarks, makers marks, traditional cast or pierced construction, and natural age-related oxidisation.

They can be framed in shadow boxes as miniature wall art or displayed on stands within a glass-fronted cabinet to highlight their intricate craftsmanship.

Clean gently with a microfibre cloth and specialised silver polish only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials that can damage delicate pierced details and hallmarks.
