A seal top spoon is an early form of spoon featuring a flat, circular terminal resembling a signet seal, which was particularly popular in England during the Tudor and Stuart periods from the 16th to the mid-17th century.

These spoons were typically crafted from hammered and worked sterling or higher-purity silver, often featuring hand-engraved maker marks on the fig-shaped bowl and a hexagonal stem cast separately before being joined to the terminal.

Authenticity is determined by examining period-correct tool marks, weight distribution, patination, and legible makers marks or town hallmarks stamped into the metal bowl or stem.

Antique silverware can be displayed in specialised glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in bespoke shadow boxes on study walls, or curated on a dedicated tabletop display stand as a focal point.

Antique silver should be handled minimally using cotton gloves, stored in tarnish-resistant cloth away from direct sunlight and humidity, and cleaned infrequently with non-abrasive professional silver care products to protect the underlying metal.
