How do you hang a heavy wall cupboard safely?

Most antique hanging cupboards retain their original brass hanging plates on the back. You need to secure these directly into masonry or structural wall studs rather than modern plasterboard. A wooden French cleat system offers a secure alternative. By attaching a hidden wooden wedge to both the wall and the cupboard, the weight distributes evenly across the whole backboard.
