A balustroid wine glass is an 18th-century English drinking vessel characterised by a stem that bridges the heavy baluster form and the lighter drawn stem styles, often featuring nodes and air tears.

These glasses were typically crafted from lead glass, introduced in the late 17th century, which allowed for thicker walls, deeper brilliance, and distinctive refractive properties compared to continental soda glass.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the folded foot, minor surface wear or scratches consistent with age, inclusions or bubbles within the metal, and the characteristic heavy weight of lead glass.

Displaying historical stemware within a glass-fronted cabinet or on a dedicated shelving unit introduces subtle texture, historical depth, and reflective elegance to a room.

Antique glass should be hand washed carefully in lukewarm water using mild detergent and dried immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth, avoiding abrasive scourers and sudden temperature changes.
