Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A soup tureen is a deep, covered vessel designed for serving soups, stews, and broad broth-based dishes at formal dining tables. They became prominent central serving pieces in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries, reflecting prevailing architectural and decorative styles.

19th-century silver-plated tureens were typically crafted from base metals such as nickel silver or copper, electroplated with a layer of pure silver. Decorative handles, feet, and finials were often cast separately and soldered onto the main body prior to electroplating.

Authentic 19th-century silver-plated pieces generally bear manufacturer makers marks or electroplate stamps, such as EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver), on the base or rim. Construction indicators include hand-chased foliage motifs, cast handles, and subtle wear on high points where base metal becomes visible.

An antique silver tureen serves as a striking centrepiece on a contemporary dining table or sideboard, filled with seasonal floral arrangements or greenery. It can also be displayed unadorned inside a glass cabinet or atop a mantelpiece to add reflective contrast to modern textures.

To maintain silver-plated items, polish gently using a non-abrasive silver cream and a soft cotton cloth to remove oxidisation without wearing down the silver layer. Wash with warm water and mild detergent, drying thoroughly immediately after to prevent water spots and tarnishing.
