Edwardian furniture, produced roughly between 1901 and 1910, often reinterpreted earlier Georgian and Sheraton designs, featuring lighter proportions, delicate stringing, and satinwood inlays combined with dark timbers such as mahogany.

These pieces typically utilized solid mahogany frames, fine mahogany veneers, and intricate marquetry or line inlay using contrasting woods like boxwood and ebony, assembled with traditional dovetail joinery.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the secondary timbers in drawer linings, hand-cut dovetailing, period-correct brass hardware, uniform glass characteristics in glazed doors, and natural oxidisation within the interior.

Pairing dark wood period furniture with neutral, textured walls and modern lighting creates a balanced focal point, allowing the craftsmanship and intricate wood grain to stand out without overpowering the space.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heating vents to prevent veneer cracking, applying natural beeswax periodically, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
