Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A William and Mary silver porringer is a two-handled vessel produced during the joint reign of King William III and Queen Mary II (16891694). Often featuring spiral fluting and repousse detail, these vessels were historically used for consuming liquid foods or warm beverages such as caudle.

Seventeenth-century porringers were raised by hand hammering a sheet of sterling silver into shape. Decorative features like spiral fluting and ropework bands were achieved using repousse and chasing techniques, with cast silver handles silver-soldered to the main body.

Authentic London silver from the 1690s features a complete set of struck hallmarks, including the makers mark, the leopards head crowned, the lion passant, and a specific date letter. The gauge of silver, visible hand-hammering marks, and period-appropriate wear on high points also assist in authentication.

An antique silver porringer can be displayed as a standalone decorative accent on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or within a glass display cabinet. Placing it alongside natural wood textures or modern ceramics creates a balanced contrast between historical metalwork and contemporary decor.

Antique sterling silver should be washed gently in warm soapy water and dried thoroughly with a soft cloth. Tarnish can be removed using a non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding overly vigorous rubbing over hallmarks or light chasing to prevent detail loss.
