Tiffany & Co

founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and Teddy Young in New York City in 1837 as a "stationery and fancy goods emporium," the store initially sold a wide variety of stationery items, and operated as Tiffany, Young and Ellis in Lower Manhattan. The name was shortened to Tiffany & Co. in 1853 when Charles Tiffany took control, and the firm's emphasis on jewellery was established.[6] Tiffany & Co. has since opened stores in major cities all over the world. Unlike other stores at the time in the 1830s, Tiffany clearly marked the prices on its goods, as there would be no haggling for the price.

The first Tiffany's mail order catalogue, known as the "Blue Book," was published in 1845 in the United States, and it is still being published today. The firm expanded further in 1847 which enabled significant increase in retailing of silver. American made silver finally took its place alongside the Tiffany name. The goods were mostly made by New York City silversmiths and often bore their marks as well as Tiffany's retailer's marks.

1851 was an important year in the history of American Silver, Tiffany was seeking the silver good distinction and became the first American firm to introduce the use of the English Sterling (.925) In 1867 at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, Tiffany's became the first American firm to win an award for excellence in silver.

They have came from strength to strength and today have more than 300 worldwide stores and 9,000 employees.
