Antique Chinese Black Lacquered Decorated Cabinet

19th century
Description

Stunning mid 19 century antique Chinese Shanxi province two door cabinet. Probably a wedding cabinet, finished in a black lacquer and beautifully hand decorated life scenes in vibrant colours to the entire front (genuine antique cabinets of this period are never decorated on the sides and are only in black or red finish). Two removable shelves and a lower "secret compartment". Lovely proportions and a very eye catching centre piece as well as perfectly functional, perfect as a drinks cabinet!

Condition report:

Very original and complete piece, expected wear only consistent with it's age. Still visible inside, lovely remnants of a Chinese printed paper tape originally to cover shakes in the timber panels
