Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mule chest is an 18th-century storage vessel featuring a top-hinged coffer section situated above one or more bottom drawers, bridging the design transition between a traditional chest and a chest of drawers.

Craftsmen constructed 18th-century coffers using solid oak joinery with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints secured by wooden pegs, often featuring fielded front panels and hand-forged iron or brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-planed timber, pegged joinery without modern screws, hand-dovetailed drawer linings, original hinge attachments, and uneven wear consistent with age.

Position the chest at the foot of a bed, in an entryway, or along a hallway, using its top surface to display contemporary ceramic vessels, framed artwork, or a table lamp for visual contrast.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
