Pate de Verre, meaning glass paste, is an ancient casting technique revived in France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming a hallmark of the Art Nouveau movement.

The technique involves packing finely crushed coloured glass mixed with a binder into a refractory mould, which is then fused together in a kiln and hand-finished.

Authentic pieces typically feature distinctive mottled colouration, a slightly granular frosted texture, intricate low-relief modelling, and period maker signatures or foundry marks.

Such decorative objects work well placed on a mantelpiece or side table where light can pass through the translucent glass, highlighting its rich colour and texture.

Clean gently with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, abrasives, or immersion in water to protect the delicate surface and any maker signatures.
