Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Aesthetic Movement emphasized art for arts sake, prioritizing visual harmony, fine craftsmanship, and stylised ornamentation over utility alone. Key characteristics include ebonised wood finishes, incised gilt decoration, and Japanese or Anglo-Japanese motifs.

These stools were constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or ebonised birch, supported by internal cast iron or brass threaded spindles to enable height adjustment. Upholstery typically featured rich fabrics such as velvet, damask, or horsehair.

Authentic period examples feature heavy cast metal threaded mechanism rods, hand-carved decorative elements, mortise-and-tenon joinery, and occasionally maker stamps or brass plaques from recognized cabinetmakers on the underside of the seat frame.

Due to its compact footprint and detailed woodwork, an ebonised piano stool works well as occasional seating, an accent side table, or a vanity seat in a bedroom or dressing area.

Clean ebonised wood surfaces with a dry microfiber cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture which can damage delicate gilding. The threaded metal height adjustment mechanism should be kept lightly lubricated with machine oil to prevent binding.
