Georgian Composite Wine Glass C1750

Technical Description
 
A very fine 18th-century composite wine glass. It has a bell bowl with a solid section at the base with a multi spiral air twist below, the air drawn down from the solid section above. This sits on a triple merese and a double air beaded knop on a helmet foot.
 
Date & Origin
 
England, C1750. Period of George III.
 
Condition
 
Excellent, no chips cracks or restoration

Height: 16.5cm, Rim diameter: 6.2cm , Foot diameter: 7.5cm
 
Comments
 
A composite stem is made up from two or more recognised stem forms, e.g. plain stem & opaque twist stem, opaque twist stem & air twist stem or knops, air twist stem or knops & plain stem etc. This example is particularly fine example.
 
You can see various composite stem glasses in Bickerton starting on page 188. Composite Stems form a very small section of the overall 18th cen glass forms and production levels were small and as such, they are highly desirable and difficult to source.
