Carved Oak Court Cupboard Dated 1701

18th century
Description

Fabulous carved oak court cupboard or joined press dated 1701. The beautiful and extensive carving with its distinctive flat surface and curving forms is typically found on furniture produced around Bowland in in North Lancashire from the middle of the 17th to the very early 18th century. Built in two sections with a short two door cupboard top on the much larger two door cupboard base fitted with a single shelf inside and with two good sized drawers in the waist. Carved with the initials RSA and dated 1701 on the top, with large turned droppers and exceptional carving, note the scores of heart motifs hidden in the pattern. Panelled sides with simple moulded rails. Oak shelf back and floor boards. Previous (probably late 19th.c) restorations, most obviously to the drawers which have later linings and runners, also with later locks handles and hinges. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
