Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this piece to the 17th Century.
The locks and handles are replacements and some of the carving appears to have been added later, but the overall result is an item of great charm and presence and also of great usefulness. The carving is of the type that was prevalent at the time, with geometric and lozenge designs accompanied by rosette carved roundels on the upper doors. The colour is a sumptuous rich antique oak with a good wax patinated surface, which definately contributes to giving this court cupboard "the look".
