We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A waterfall bookcase features stepped or graduated open shelves that narrow towards the top, often combined with a lower enclosed cabinet base. This form gained popularity during the late Georgian and Regency periods, prized for both display and concealed storage.

Authentic period pieces were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, frequently featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, pegged frames, and solid timber panels finished with traditional shellac polishes.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-sawn dovetails, natural timber shrinkage, old patination, and secondary woods consistent with the era, such as pine or oak carcases behind mahogany show-wood.

Pair the dark wood tones with neutral wall colours, curate shelves with a balanced mix of vertical books and decorative objects, and let the historical form contrast against contemporary architectural elements.

Maintain stable relative humidity and protect the timber from direct sunlight to prevent warping or fading. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and periodically apply microcrystalline wax to nourish the traditional polish finish.
