Antique Glass - Sealed Wine Bottle Rhc 1815

Description

Narrow- bodied cylinder wine bottle in olive green, short slightly tapering neck and tooled lip and string rim, rounded or square shoulders and narrow body with kick up and sand pontil. Seal RHC 1815. Richard Hall Clarke 1750-1821 was the son of Richard Clarke and Mary Rowe of Credition Devonshire. Married Mary Were of Burrington in 1773 and died in 1821. RHC commissioned these bottles to commemorate the ending of the Napoleonic Wars and his safe return from the Battle of Waterloo. He invited the the great and the good from all over Devonshire and Cornwall to attend a party at his house, which lasted for over one week and where each quest was presented with a sealed bottle to mark the occurance C1790-1800.

Note: Information obtained from Antique Sealed Bottles 1640 -1900 and the families who owned them volume two by David Burton and Christopher Mortimer.

Base dia: 8.5 cm.

Condition: Very good with excellent surface sheen and a well defined seal.
