Scottish pebble jewellery gained immense popularity during the Victorian era, largely driven by Queen Victorias fondness for Balmoral and the Scottish Highlands, which sparked a widespread Celtic revival movement in the 19th century.

These pieces are typically crafted from silver, featuring hand-cut Scottish hardstones such as jasper, bloodstone, and agate, often set within intricately engraved or chased metal frameworks.

Authentic pieces from the 19th century typically feature period-appropriate fastenings such as a C-clasp and long pin shank, hand-beveled stone settings, and characteristic hand-engraved detailing on the silver rather than cast uniformity.

Store them in a dry, tarnish-resistant lined box away from direct sunlight, and clean the silver gently with a soft microfibre cloth while avoiding chemical dips that can damage natural hardstones.

In modern styling, these brooches can be pinned to heavy wool lapels, scarves, or hats as a statement accessory, or mounted in a shadow box frame as a small-scale textile art piece.
