Yolanda Gray Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
This Victorian linen press is designed with a double moulded protruding cornice. The top section comprises of two lovely flame mahogany panel doors, flanked by fine quality carved corbels top and bottom of the pillars. The left-hand door retains its original brass sliding latches, while the right-hand door features the original working lever lock (with working key). The top section opens to reveal a bank of five original sliding linen trays, constructed with solid oak drawer linings and bottoms. These trays provide lots of storage space for linen and clothes. The base section comprises a two-over-two drawer configuration, with further plentiful storage space. The drawer sides are oak lined and hand-dovetailed, therefore constructed with the finest materials, in the original manner. The drawer fronts are decorated with elegant flame mahogany fronts, cock-beaded detail, whilst retaining the original turned mahogany knobs, key escutcheons and working locks (with key). The Victorian linen press is raised on its original plinth base. The Victorian linen press also features the original pine backboards. The linen chest dismantles into three sections (cornice, top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase and into the bedroom. This Victorian linen press boasts a rich red-brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This Victorian linen press is an excellent investment but is also very practical for storage and would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home.
