Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A silver ewer is a decorative, narrow-necked pitcher or jug designed primarily for serving liquids such as wine or water. Originating in antiquity, silver ewers became prominent dining statement pieces during the 18th and 19th centuries, frequently featuring neoclassical urn profiles, footed pedestal bases, and hinged lids.

Antique ewers are typically constructed from sterling silver or high-grade silver plate, often featuring an inner gilded lining to prevent liquid corrosion. Handles are frequently carved from ebony, fruitwood, or horn to insulate the users hand when warm liquids are served.

Authenticity is determined by examining makers marks, purity hallmarks, town marks, and date letters stamped into the metal casing, usually near the rim or base. Genuine period pieces exhibit hand-engraved armorial details, seamless silver soldering at construction joints, and natural age-related oxidisation.

An antique silver ewer functions as a focal point when displayed on a dining room sideboard, drinks trolley, or mantelpiece. It pairs effectively with dark timber furniture, contemporary glass stemware, or minimalist stone surfaces to provide textural contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth and polish periodically using a specialized non-abrasive silver cream to remove tarnish. Avoid submerging non-silver wooden or horn handles in water, and store the piece in a dry environment with low humidity to limit oxidisation.
