Technical Description
 
A fine example of a Jacobite Acrotic engraved wine glass from c1760. It has a rib moulded ogee bowl above a double series opaque twist stem consisting of 4-ply spiral band outside a pair of spiral tapes. Conical foot.
 
The bowl has a continuous floral band of flowers featuring a Carnation, Honeysuckle, Rose and Sunflower.
 
Remembering that it was the death penalty for being a Jacobite sympathiser, especially in the years after the battle of Culloden in 1745, the engravings were a risk, but also a way of secretly pledging yourself to the Jacobite cause...CHRS, relating to The Young Pretender, Charles.
