Description

This is a delightful and rare 19th century Tibetan cabinet in super original condition dating from around 1890. The cabinet has really charming hand painted designs throughout with gazelle, horned deer and other animals set within colourful borders with typical Tibetan scroll designs. This has a practical form with three useful drawers and large central door to shelved interior. The cabinet has a lovely shape with raised frieze and gilded bead edge design around the drawers and fielded panels to the sides with stunning central gilded scroll medallions hand painted on a beautiful iron red ground. The swept recessed frieze to the top has lovely painted borders in ironstone, ochre, green and black, with the upper surface being the original waxed elm which has a lovely warm colour.

The piece is in super condition and measures 114 cms high 74 cms wide by 39 cms deep.

A very rare original with great character.

Provenance: This was formerly the property of a Gentleman Scholar and Collector and comes from his estate in the South East of London.
