Description

Rare late 18th / early 19th century Georgian green glass rum decanter. Nice early shaped decanter of a beautiful green colour with virtually all the original gilt decoration which is hardly rubbed at all. Would have had a cork stopper originally as no signs of inside of a glass one. Very good condition and rare being green rather than the usual Bristol blue.

SIZE; 7 1/4" high. 3" diameter.

CIRCA; 1790 - 1810

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Antique glass should be hand washed gently in lukewarm water with mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives or sudden temperature changes, and dried carefully with a lint-free cloth.

These pieces can be displayed on a sideboard, bar cart, or open shelving to introduce historical texture, colour, and a sense of heritage into contemporary living spaces.

Authenticity is typically determined by examining the base for a rough snapped pontil mark, assessing the weight and thickness of the glass, and observing characteristic manufacturing bubbles and tool marks consistent with period production.

These items were traditionally mouth-blown using free-blown or mold-blown techniques, often utilizing green bottle glass or flint glass, and frequently hand-gilded or panel-cut by skilled artisans.

Georgian glassware, produced during the reigns of George I through George IV (1714-1830), is characterised by heavy lead metal content, deep pontil marks, and robust silhouettes designed for practical use on dining and side tables.
