Table 'The Finest' of All Architects Tables George III Mahogany C1780

18th century
Description

Here we have 'the finest' George III Mahogany architects table c1780. As you can see the table has outstanding colour and patina. We are very confident that this is the finest architects table ever made. Not only is it probably unique in its configuration of double sided drawers but it is constructed from the finest timbers and was almost certainly a comissioned piece for someone of high status. The table is completely fresh to the market and a must for any Georgian furniture collector. The top is a stunning single piece of well figured Cuban Mahogany with a decorative duoble inlaid Ebony string. There is a raising book or folio stand to the front of the top which is celverly cut from the top and works with a rear sliding catch. The whole top lifts and can be rested at various angles. There is an original Bramah lock and remarkebly the original key. The front slides forward on original wooden casters to reveal a baize lined desk area. This slides back to reveal a fully fitted internal space with hinged swing out candle stands. There is also a swing out quill or pen holder. We have never seen one of these tables with drawers on both sides which are original and have cockbeaded edges and turned wooden bun handles. This truly is one of the most remarkable pieces of Georgian furniture on the market and is in fantastic retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 92 cm wide 55 cm deep 80 cm high.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
