This set of six Art Deco drinks glasses and a matching jug originates from 1930 and is constructed from clear etched glass. The pieces display an oriental-inspired design featuring an etched bamboo pattern encircling the cylindrical tumblers and the jug, which also incorporates an applied curved handle. The glass shows no signs of wear, maintaining a clean finish throughout the service. The set fits well on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space for serving drinks during gatherings or everyday use. The tumblers measure 6.5 cm in width and 10 cm in height, while the jug measures 18 cm in width and 19.5 cm in height.

FAQs

Art Deco glassware from this period often combined functional glass forms with minimalist or stylized decoration. Etched motifs included geometric lines, abstracts, and natural elements like bamboo or palm fronds, reflecting both modernist architecture and Orientalist design influences popular during the era.

These sets were typically manufactured using soda-lime or lead crystal glass. Decorative patterns were applied using acid etching or wheel engraving techniques, where abrasive tools carved controlled designs directly into the glass surface before polishing.

Authentic pieces generally display subtle irregularities consistent with mid-century glassblowing and etching methods. Look for signs of age such as faint surface wear on base rims, hand-applied handles with slight variations, and precise cut or etched detailing.

Display the set on a timber sideboard, brass bar cart, or open kitchen shelving to allow light to catch the etched motifs. The neutral transparency of clear glass enables seamless integration with both contemporary and traditional tableware.

Hand wash pieces individually using warm water and mild dish detergent with a non-abrasive sponge. Avoid dishwashers, as harsh detergents and high heat can cause permanent clouding, fracturing, or degradation of delicate etched surface details.
