Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian classical revival oil lamps frequently incorporate ancient architectural motifs, such as Corinthian or Ionic columns, crafted from gilt bronze or brass. They combine ornate metalwork standards with cut crystal or pressed glass fuel reservoirs and decorative etched glass shades.

High-grade 19th-century oil lamps typically feature bases made from ormolu (gilt bronze), brass, or marble, paired with glass or crystal reservoirs. The shades were often mouth-blown glass, featuring acid-etched designs, cranberry or green tinted rims, and clear glass chimneys.

Authentic period lamps display original brass burner mechanisms, often stamped with maker marks, alongside genuine wear to the gilding and base. The glass components usually exhibit hand-cut facets or acid-etched details, natural minor air bubbles, and signs of age around the fitting threads.

An antique oil lamp serves as a striking decorative focal point when placed on a sideboard, console table, or desk. It adds sculptural height and historical texture to contemporary or traditional rooms, whether preserved as a decorative accent or converted to electric power.

Clean the metal components using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid stripping the original gilding or lacquer finish. Glass shades and chimneys may be washed in warm water with mild detergent, ensuring they are entirely dry before reassembly.
