Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Antique bedside chests from the 19th century typically feature dense tropical hardwood construction, hand-dovetailed joints, and classical proportions reflecting Georgian or Victorian cabinet-making traditions.

These pieces are predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine, utilising traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails for the drawers and turned wooden knobs.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction markers such as irregular hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate secondary woods, and natural oxidisation within the drawer interiors.

Pairing antique dark wood furniture with clean, neutral walls and contemporary textiles creates a balanced scheme that highlights the rich grain and historical character of the timber.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying quality beeswax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
