Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French serpentine painted cupboard is a tall storage cabinet featuring a undulating, curved front profile developed during the 18th and 19th centuries. These functional furniture pieces were widely used in French country homes and chateaux to store linens, household wares, and food.

These cupboards were typically constructed using regional softwoods such as pine or hardwoods like oak and walnut. The surfaces were finished with mineral-based or milk paint layers, often accompanied by hand-forged iron hinges, escutcheons, and latches.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature hand-cut joinery, hand-planed back panels, and irregular iron hardware. The paint finish typically shows organic wear patterns, subtle paint layering, and micro-cracking across areas of high contact.

A painted cupboard introduces soft texture and architectural height to contemporary spaces. Position it in a kitchen as a pantry, in a hallway for concealed storage, or in a bedroom as an armoire paired with clean, minimalist backdrop walls.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth and avoid liquid cleaners that can damage historic paint. Apply a thin coat of clear, natural beeswax once a year to protect the paint layer from humidity fluctuations.
