Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Swedish dome top coffer is a traditional wooden storage chest featuring a curved lid, often decorated with folk art painting and reinforced with iron straps. Historically used as marriage or dowry chests in rural Scandinavian households, these coffers served as essential storage for linens and textiles during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Scandinavian coffers were typically constructed from local softwoods or hardwoods such as pine or oak, fitted with hand-forged wrought iron bands, hinges, and lock plates. Decorative finishes were applied using mineral-based pigments, frequently incorporating floral motifs, dates, and initials associated with the original owner.

Authentic 19th-century coffers exhibit natural wear consistent with age, hand-hammered iron fittings with uneven surfaces, and original dovetailed or pegged wooden joinery. Original paintwork typically displays authentic craquelure, surface oxidisation, and targeted rubbing on high-touch areas such as the lid rim and base.

A Swedish painted coffer serves as a statement piece when positioned at the foot of a bed, within an entry hall, or used as a central coffee table in a living room. Its muted blue tones and graphic folk art motifs complement minimalist Scandinavian, rustic farmhouse, or eclectic interiors by adding texture and historical character.

Maintain painted wooden coffers by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoiding chemical cleaners or abrasive sprays. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and excessive humidity to prevent the wood from warping and the historic paint layers from flaking.
