18th C. Gillows Mahogany Secretaire Cabinet

Description

A country house Mahogany secretaire cabinet attributed to Gillows. The oval panelled drawer opens to reveal a beautifully fitted secretaire with original lock and key. Beneath are 2 panelled doors which open to reveal the original slides, the whole raised on “Gillows French feet”. Wonderful original finish with faded colour and rich patina. English Circa 1790. We share a Gillows sketch showing a variation of the cabinet in 1793 on bracket feet, described as a Low Wardrobe with writing drawer.
