Description

Highly colourful pair of Italian maiolica earthenware vases in the Renaissance style. They are of a waisted shape used as ‘drug, jars mainly in a pharmacy or shop. The decoration is elaborate and as with this example mostly different on each side. This albarello shape is narrower in the middle than the top and bottom. Beautiful painted decoration over a white glazed ground, larger than average in size. There is small area on one vase where the glaze hasn’t adhered to the terracotta base and has run, see close up image. Mid to late 19th century
