19th century

Description

This Pair of Brass Pricket Candlestick are both decorative as well as providing a degree of romantic lighting. Standing on a triform base displaying portraits of what are believed to be religious figures, adding a level of style to the pieces.

The brass itself has mellowed to a lovely soft finish and we have ignored the temptation to clean and buff the metal as feel they have a lovely tactile quality as they are, offsetting the candles so much better like this.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A matching pair of nineteenth century Gothic Revival pricket candlesticks stand on triform scrolled feet with cast relief portrait medallions on their triangular bases. Turned columns with fluted shafts rise to drip pans and prickets holding tall white wax candles. The brass displays an unpolished, mellowed antique brass finish with visible patination on the surfaces. Each candlestick measures 48 cm high by 13 cm wide by 13 cm deep, with the height to the top of the drip tray at 41 cm. These decorative lighting pieces suit placement on a mantelpiece to provide atmospheric illumination in a living room, dining room or study.

FAQs

A pricket candlestick features a central vertical spike designed to secure large wax candles, traditionally used in ecclesiastical settings and historical grand interiors.

These pieces were predominantly cast in solid brass, bronze, or iron, frequently featuring fluted columns, heavy triform bases, and detailed ornamental castings to ensure stability.

Authentic examples typically exhibit evidence of hand-casting or seam marks, hand-finished detailing, substantial weight distribution at the base, and authentic surface patination rather than uniform modern lacquer.

Position a pair on a dining table, mantelpiece, or sideboard to introduce vertical scale, warm metallic accents, and architectural structure to a room.

Remove wax build-up using warm water or gentle heating, avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip historical patina, and dust regularly with a soft dry cloth.
