Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tekke Turkmen rugs originate from the nomadic Tekke tribe of Central Asia, historically woven across regions of modern-day Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. These weavings served functional tribal purposes and are noted for their disciplined repeating octagonal motifs, often referred to as Bokhara patterns in the Western market.

These rugs are woven using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the warp/weft structure. Dyes were derived from natural vegetable sources, primarily madder root to produce deep red tones, and the knots were tied tightly by hand using asymmetrical or symmetrical knotting techniques.

Authentic pieces display finely woven wool structures with tight, dense knots and geometric rows of Tekke guls. The reverse side reveals precise hand-knotting rather than uniform machine backing, and older examples demonstrate subtle colour variations known as abrash caused by hand-dyed wool batches.

A dark red tribal rug anchors living spaces by providing a rich visual foundation beneath neutral furniture or dark wood dining sets. It complements modern minimalist rooms by adding geometric structure or integrates seamlessly into traditional, library-style interiors.

Routine maintenance requires gentle vacuuming using suction only to avoid catching the hand-woven fringes or pile. Professional specialist cleaning is recommended for deep dirt removal, and placing a cushioned underlay beneath the rug prevents slippage and reduces friction wear.
