Antique Tekke Turkmen chuval face with six ''Salor'' turreted guls.
Circa 1890.
Chuval are storage bags used by the Turkmen nomads for the storage of personal items inside the yurt and also for the transport of goods on the backs of camels or horses. They were usually woven in pairs.
A good chuval face that is very well drawn with six ''Salor'' guls and Tekke chuval guls as secondary guls. The extensive use of cochineal dye gives the superb ground colour. The elem panel at the base is of a striking design that creates diagonal movement. At some time in its history the plain weave back has been removed, making this very suitable for use as a small rug.
Excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile.
