Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chuval is a large storage bag created by nomadic Turkmen tribes, primarily the Tekke tribe of Central Asia, used for transporting goods and organising tent interiors. The front panel, or face, typically features detailed wool pile weaving with characteristic tribal symbols called guls.

Authentic 19th-century Turkmen textiles were hand-woven using hand-spun sheeps wool for both the pile and the foundation structure. The rich red, navy, and ivory shades were derived from natural vegetable and insect dyes, such as madder root and cochineal.

Authentic Tekke pieces feature a dense, finely knotted asymmetric wool pile, a dominant madder or rust-red field, and repeating octagonal Tekke guls aligned in horizontal and vertical rows. They also frequently incorporate a distinct lower decorative border known as an elem.

These woven panels are commonly mounted and framed as wall art, hung on custom rods, or laid as accent floor coverings in lower-traffic areas. Their geometric patterns and warm red tones add architectural texture to both traditional studies and minimalist modern spaces.

Keep antique wool weaving out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading, and vacuum gently using suction only without a rotating beater bar. Professional hand washing by an antique carpet specialist is recommended to clean fibers without causing structural damage.
