Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 19th-century brass candlesticks from the late Georgian and Regency periods are characterised by heavy cast construction, turned baluster or columnar stems, and stepped circular or square bases. They frequently feature internal push-up ejector mechanisms designed to raise the candle stub.

These lighting pieces were typically cast in high-copper brass using core-sand moulds, after which individual components were turned on a lathe and joined. Later adaptations often added fabric lampshades with decorative tassel or fringe trimmings to convert them for electrical or shaded illumination.

Authentic period pieces display hand-turned lathe marks, slight asymmetry from manual hand-finishing, and seam lines inside the hollow stem. The weight is noticeably substantial due to solid cast brass, with natural oxidisation occurring in unpolished recesses.

They are frequently arranged as symmetrical pairs atop sideboards, mantels, or console tables to provide structured vertical height and warm metallic tones. Integrating fitted fabric shades softens light distribution, blending traditional brass craft with modern layered lighting.

Brass can be cleaned using a soft cotton cloth and dedicated metal polish to preserve lustre, while avoiding abrasive solvents on aged patinas. Fabric shades should be lightly vacuumed with a brush attachment or dry-cleaned gently to maintain fringe integrity.
